This advanced piano medley arrangement combines two familiar melodies – the church hymn Breathe On Me Breath of God (tune: TRENTHAM) and the Largo tune (“Ombra mai fu”) from Händel’s opera Xerxes. It may look simple on paper, maintaining the solemn character of both themes, but you will still encounter musical surprises. For example, the melodic line is sometimes played in the middle register, sandwiched between a higher and a lower layer. Also, you will hear a flowing countermelody on the third page, tying all the layers together in a musically satisfying way.
