His Eye Is On the Sparrow (with Tchaikovsky's Song of the Lark)

This advanced piano medley arrangement combines two beautiful melodies – the church hymn His Eye Is On the Sparrow (tune: SPARROW) and fragments from Tchaikovsky’s “Song of the Lark” from his Children’s Album op. 39. The common thread that holds these two themes together is the bird song, depicted via the frequent use of musical ornaments such as mordents and grace notes. This arrangement begins with a presentation of the hymn verse where the ornaments foreshadow the Tchaikovsky tune which will start on the second page. It will then modulate from the original key of G major down a third to E major at the bottom of the second page. Then after a direct modulation to E minor in measure 37 we will eventually arrive back to the original key of G major on the fourth page. In that section you will hear snippets of the hymn tune presented in different registers of the piano, depicting the singer’s point of view in the middle register and echoed by the bird song in the higher register. This elegant, graceful and uplifting piano arrangement of "His Eye Is On the Sparrow" is suitable for church prelude, offertory or postlude all year round and it pairs particularly well with sermons on trusting for God’s provision.
