In writing this carol I focused on the theological side of the Christmas story. I did not mention the magi, nor the shepherds, nor the animals in the stable. Sure, they are important to the story, but they are not the main focus of Christmas. At the same time I did not hint at any modern holiday elements such as gifts or decorations.

Here's the theology of Christmas in a nutshell: The world below is buried under the weight of sin and death. The only way for creation to be restored back to its original design is through Jesus Christ, whose work of redemption began at his incarnation (Christmas). Through his resurrection (Easter), Jesus will bring his people out of darkness into light. CHECK OUT the lyrics and the audio recording below! 👇

A hopeless generation
For sin and death in deepest woe
Have buried all creation.
But Jesus from his throne above
Came down to us tonight
To lead his people by his love
From darkness into light.

He took on human flesh like us,
Was born to live and suffer,
The One who formed the universe
Now sleeping by his mother.
Th’Eternal One steps down in time
To bring his kingdom near.
The Word of God and Son divine
Now dwelling with us here.

Rejoice for Jesus Christ the king
Has brought us God’s salvation
Triumphant over death and sin,
The hope of every nation!
O, come and join the angels bright,
Sing praises and adore!
The baby born on this dark night
Will shine forevermore!
